Sandstone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed of grains very similar to sand that can be made up of various minerals depending on where it is quarried.

Quartz is one of the grains most resistant to abrasion and chemical damage and is one of the most common ingredients of these rocks. The substance that cements the grains together can have an extremely variable composition which is why the word “sandstone” can refer to very different types of stone.

Sandstones can have very marked differences in colour and – thanks to their physical features – are widely used in the building industry, in particular to make outdoor paving tiles, claddings and architectural elements.

Sandstone is more resistant to impact and to corrosion than marble. Like all natural rocks even sandstone can be slightly absorbent which is why we at Valcucine apply a special nanotechnological treatment to all stone surfaces to greatly increase their stain resistance.
